How To Reduce Parenting Disputes in Your Separation or Divorce! Part Two

How to Resolve Parenting Disputes in Your Separation or Divorce! Part Two

Let me ask you a simple question: do you want to resolve parenting disputes with your former spouse quickly and easily?

Most parents would say, “Absolutely!”

Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley.  I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.

Here are some more really important tips for resolving disputes with your former spouse about your kids:

  1. Keep your financial issues out of your parenting issues

You definitely will have to deal with your former spouse on the parenting issues for your children.

However, you must separate the financial issues from the parenting issues as much as possible so that you and your former spouse can make the best parenting decisions for your kids.

Don’t get your children involved in any financial issues, such as child support, spousal support and the property claims issues.

As I mentioned in another video, you must stay child-focused so that you can make the best decisions possible for your children so that they can enjoy peace and stability in their lives.

  1. You must communicate with the other parent about your children

You must provide basic information to the other parent about what’s happening to your children in school and important details about any medical issues with your children.

You must have the other parent’s contact information for both emergency and non-emergency situations involving your children.

The other parent must be providing the same basic information to you as well.

Each parent should be able to their children’s sports and school activities.  Your children have to know that both parents love them.

  1. Try to understand the other parent’s point of view for the sake of your children

Of course, one of the biggest problems causing parenting disputes is lack of understanding.

You must actively listen to the other parent’s concerns so that you truly understand them.

You can certainly reduce misunderstanding with the other parent about your children by actively listening to the other parent.  You can often narrow your areas of disagreement so that you can reach an agreement on issues that truly benefits your children.

By following these tips and the tips in my other video on reducing parenting disputes, you can increase the likelihood of giving your kids the best lives they can have.

Life is already difficult enough for them dealing with your separation or divorce.

You owe it to them to reduce any parenting disputes with the other parent as much as possible.
