How To Stop Social Media From Destroying Your Separation or Divorce!

How To Stop Social Media From Destroying Your Separation or Divorce!

Everyone is always talking about the latest social media post they just read!

You just don’t want to be the gossip topic of that social media post in your separation or divorce!

Social medial can kill your chances of success in your separation or divorce if you don’t watch it!

Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley.  I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.

I have given you some great advice to follow in a previous video on how to avoid a social media disaster in your separation or divorce.

Here’s some more key ways to avoid social media problems that can easily damage your separation or divorce:

1.  Don’t Post Anything About Your Financial Situation on Social Media!

You can easily ruin your credibility about your financial situation with your posts on social media.

You state you have no money.

However, you are posting on LinkedIn that your new business is doing really well.

Your former spouse and their lawyer can easily dig up this information and use it against you in family court or in negotiating a separation agreement.

2.  Don’t Post Anything About Your Love Life on Social Media

As you know, separation and divorce are a very emotional time for spouses.

That’s completely understandable.

Your spouse can easily get very upset with you if you are posting photos of you and your new special friend everywhere on social media.

This makes it really difficult to negotiate a separation agreement or reach a final settlement in family court with your former spouse when they are really upset with what they are seeing on social media.

Just don’t do it!

3.  Don’t Make Any Negative Statements About Your Former Spouse on Social Media!

You want to maintain a great relationship with your children.  You can’t do that when you are making negative comments about their other parent.

Negative comments about your former spouse as a parent can also damage your custody and access case.

A judge wants to see you that you are facilitating a good relationship between your children and the other parent.

Obviously, negative comments certainly will not help your position in front of a family court judge on custody and access issues.

You can see that social media is real minefield for spouses getting separated or divorced.

Be really careful!
