How To Survive Under The Same Roof with Your Ex-Spouse in Your Separation or Divorce!

Have you been trying to survive under the same roof with your ex-spouse while you’re going through your separation or divorce?

It probably feels like a terrible situation.  I get that.

I will discuss some ways to actually survive in the same home with your ex-spouse until you are finally in a position to get your own place.

Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley.  I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.

Please remember to like this video and subscribe to my Youtube channel if you have not done so already.

One important approach to dealing with separated spouses in the same home is that one spouse needs to create their own living space in another part of the house in addition to the regular living space in the home.

You could, for example, create living space for yourself in the basement.

When you and your spouse each have your own living space in the home, you can more easily tolerate living in the same home with your former spouse.

You and your former spouse should also try to come to an understanding or informal agreement with your former spouse about who is in the house and when.

This certainly reduces tension in the home so that you can avoid each other even more while you and your ex-spouse continue to live in the same home.

Another key factor is to work on getting a detailed separation agreement completed and finalized so that you know exactly what your financial situation will be so that you can have the funds to get your place and move on with your life.

Don’t let your ex-spouse procrastinate on negotiating a detailed separation agreement or court settlement.  You need a settlement to finalize your financial situation and get any funds that you are entitled to receive as part of a settlement.

Make sure you are going for walks and getting other types of exercise.  This is so important for releasing your stress, frustration and anxiety.

Plan and participate in fun activities with your children.  This makes life so much enjoyable for you and your children.

Don’t fight in front of your children in the home.  That’s a really big mistake.  Your children are already facing a difficult time in their lives with the separation of their parents.  They don’t need to see their parents bickering and arguing and causing even more instability in their lives.

If you follow these simple steps, your living situation with your former spouse in the same house should become a little easier for everyone until you have signed a separation agreement or court settlement with your former spouse.
