The Truth About Trying To Have An Easy Separation or Divorce in Ontario!

The Truth About Trying To Have An Easy Separation or Divorce in Ontario!

Let’s talk about more ways to make your separation or divorce go as smoothly as possible.

It will never be as easy as a walk in the park.

However, you certainly can make it easier for yourself and your children.

Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley.  I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.

Here’s four more important ways to have a healthy separation and divorce in Ontario as much as possible:

4.  Hire An Experienced Family Lawyer

Your family lawyer can certainly make your life a lot easier in your separation or divorce.  They can make sure you know and understand your essential family law rights.

Your lawyer will be responsible for drafting the technical paperwork you need to protect your family law rights and reach a reasonable settlement with your former spouse.

Your lawyer can deal with a difficult ex-spouse or their lawyer so that you can start moving on with your life.

5.   Take Care of Yourself!

It’s so important that you take care of yourself during this difficult time in your life.

You definitely need to set up an excellent support network of friends and family members.  You can rely on them for indispensable emotional and moral support as you go through your separation or divorce.

Stress and frustration can really take a toll on your body and mental well-being during your separation or divorce.

However, you really reduce the negative effects of this stress and frustration with exercise, eating properly, and an excellent support network.

You should also seriously consider personal counselling to deal with the difficult emotional issues you are facing in the separation and divorce process.

6.   Focus on Getting a Fair and Reasonable Settlement From the Start!

The key to ending the legal issues in your separation or divorce is to reach a fair and reasonable settlement with your former spouse.

You should work closely with your family lawyer to create a fair and reasonable separation agreement that protects your family law rights.   When your separation agreement is fair and reasonable based on Ontario family law principles and the facts of your particular situation, your former spouse is more likely to sign the agreement.

Even when your spouse is difficult and you end up in the family court system, you often can settle your family law issues with a fair and reasonable written settlement based on a judge’s recommendations at your court appearances.

Your family lawyer can carefully guide on the specific approaches you should take to reach a fair and reasonable settlement with your former spouse depending on the facts of your case and any changes in your situation that occur as you move through the separation and divorce process.

7.   Create A Plan For Your Future

When you focus on moving past your separation and divorce and creating a new future for yourself, you will most likely find it’s much easier to deal with your current separation and divorce issues.

Give some time to actually sit back and visualize your new life after your separation and divorce is finalized.

Take time to do that all important job of writing down how you want your life to look in five years and then create a major goal list on how you want to live your life in five years or less.

Create your own future instead of flying around aimlessly like a leaf in the wind.
