What Are the 5 Personality Traits to Help Successfully Survive Your Separation or Divorce?

I don’t have to convince you that you are going to face a really difficult time in your separation or divorce.

I have found that clients with some specific personality traits successfully survive their separation or divorce.

In fact, they are usually many steps ahead of clients who did not use these key qualities to handle the end of their relationship or marriage.

Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley.  I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.

Here’s 5 key personality traits that will help you win in your separation or divorce:

1.   Take a Professional, Business-Like Approach to Your Separation or Divorce.

You must adopt a professional, business-like approach in dealing with your separation or divorce.  You cannot let emotions rule you when you dealing with the important issues in your family law case.

Now, I know this can be really difficult.  That’s why you need an excellent support network to help you vent your frustrations and anxieties in a private setting.

You might even consider personal counselling.  That really helps many people learn how to cope during this really difficult time in your life.

2.  Don’t be pressured or bullied into making any decisions on important issues.

You need to take the necessary time to make decisions about important issues in your separation or divorce.

Don’t let your former spouse bully you or put pressure on you to make life-changing decisions quickly.  You need time to reflect and consider your position on the important family and legal issues in your separation or divorce.

3.   Be prepared.

You need to be prepared for your separation or divorce.

The most important way for you to be prepared is to know and understand your family law rights.  You definitely need to hire an experienced family lawyer to protect your family law rights.

You will quickly find yourself over your head in dealing with your family law issues unless you have an experience family lawyer to help protect your legal rights throughout your family law case.

4.  Be Settlement-Oriented But Prepared to Fight When Necessary

When you know and understand your family law rights, you must focus on settling your family law issues so that you can move on with your life.

You need to be settlement-oriented.  However, be prepared to stand firm on important issues in your family law case, especially when you have a strong legal position based on your family lawyer’s advice.

5.  Focus Your Energy on What’s Best For Your Children

You need to make sure you are doing what’s in the best interests of your children.

Establish activities and priorities that ensure that your children continue to do well even though their parents have separated.

Be respectful towards your former spouse, the other parent of your children.  Your children will definitely see how you treat your former spouse.  Your children are much more likely to succeed in life when you have provided a great background for them, including treating the other parent with respect and reason.
