Who Else Wants To Know If Their Spouse is Hiding Assets in Their Separation or Divorce in Ontario?

Who Else Wants To Know If Their Spouse is Hiding Assets In Your Separation or Divorce?

Is it really a surprise that your spouse could be hiding assets and investments in your separation or divorce?

In fact, full financial disclosure is a fundamental part of Ontario family law.

Full financial disclosure means that each spouse must disclose all their assets and debts, including the value of each asset and the amount of each debt or liability.

Here’s the bottom line: You can’t get a fair financial settlement in your separation or divorce without full financial disclosure from your spouse.

Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley.  I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.

Here are some ways to know that your spouse is probably hiding assets and investments from you:

1.  Your spouse has a P.O. box or private mail drop box that gets account statements and bills.

2.  Your spouse reports a dramatic decrease in the value of investments.

3.  They own multiple cell phones or numbers over a relatively short period of time.

4.    Suddenly their business is not doing as well as used to do during the marriage.

5.  Your spouse is very pushy about getting your signature on important documents.

6.  They open multiple business or personal bank accounts without obvious reasons for having that many bank accounts.

7.   Your spouse is always hanging out or seeing a financial advisor or accountant who seems really shady.

8.    Your spouse’s business has no decrease in expenses when his business income is allegedly decreasing!

9.      Your spouse suddenly states that he has large personal or business debts that they did not disclose to your earlier.

10.     Your spouse is secretive about their financial affairs.

Watch out for these signs when your marriage or relationship is on the rocks or you know you are getting separated or divorced.

I’ll discuss some key information about how to tell whether your spouse is hiding assets and investments in another video.
