How To Work Well With Your Family Lawyer in Your Separation or Divorce!

If you’re getting separated or divorced, one of the proven ways for a successful outcome in your family law case is to have an excellent professional relationship with your family lawyer.

I will discuss some key ways to work effectively and successfully with your family lawyer in this video.

Make sure you have good rapport with your lawyer before you hire them.  You need to get along with your lawyer and there has to be mutual respect between you and your lawyer.

When you have your first meeting with your family lawyer, you should highlight the key points about your marriage or common-law relationship with your lawyer, especially the problems that affect the family law issues in your situation.

You should definitely tell your lawyer your goals for your separation or divorce.   

Your lawyer should definitely provide you with a good idea on how to protect your family law rights based on your circumstances.

You lawyer will ask you for some key information that you need to provide to your lawyer as soon as possible.

You need to provide your family information, including your contact information, your spouse’s name and address, and your children’s names and dates of birth

Your lawyer will probably ask you to provide a written summary of the history of your marriage or common-law relationship.  Don’t write a book.  Your lawyer just wants the key points about the history of your marriage or common-law relationship.

You will have to completed a detailed Financial Statement with your lawyer’s help.  You need to list your assets and debts that you had on your date of marriage and the date of separation.

You need to provide values for your assets and amounts of your debts on this Financial Statement.

Don’t get worried at all about completing this Financial Statement.  Your lawyer will guide you through this important process.

When you first start working with your lawyer, make sure you carefully listen to your lawyer’s advice on what information they need to help you. 

Your lawyer should provide with a clear strategy on the best way to protect your family law rights depending on the facts of your case.
