Here’s 4 important approaches and ways to help you win your child custody case:
1. Follow court orders
You must follow court orders. As many people say, they are orders, not suggestions.
You must follow court order even if you disagree with them. You will not do well at all in family court when a judge sees that you are not following their orders or the orders of other family court judges.
A judge will lose confidence in your ability to properly parent your children if you cannot follow court orders.
2. Create An Effective Parenting Plan
You will really put everything in your favour in your child custody case when you create an effective parenting plan.
Make sure you put specific parenting times for both you and your spouse in the plan.
You must be reasonable in setting out your spouse’s parenting time to reflect how involved your spouse was in raising the children during your relationship or marriage and how much your spouse wants to be involved in raising your children now.
A one-sided parenting plan that benefits you most of the time will not help you in your child custody case. However, a fair and reasonable parenting plan will take you a long way in showing the court that you are doing what’s in the best interests of your children.
Make sure that you will closely with your family lawyer on creating a successful parenting plan.
3. Communicate effectively with your former spouse about your children
You need to show a family court judge that you can communicate effectively with your former spouse about your kids.
Even if you have the authority to make the key decisions about your children, you will still have to inform the other parent about these key decisions.
You need to keep a civil and reasonable relationship with the other parent as much as possible. This only helps your children in the long run.
4. Always take the high road
The other parent can easily not act properly in dealing with your kids and in handling other aspects of your separation or divorce.
You should not retaliate against your spouse simply because they are not acting properly. Always take the high road for the best interests of your children. They know who acting properly much more than you realize.
In other words, do what is right for your children even though your former spouse is trying to cause problems or take advantage of your situation.
The family court can easily see which parent is doing the right things for their children and doing the best to give the children stability in their lives.
