How to Know Whether You Should Get Separated or Divorced in Ontario!
Are you ready to get separated or divorced?
That’s a really tough decision to make!
Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley. I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.
You need to examine your relationship or marriage carefully before you make that final decision to get separated or divorced from your spouse.
You should carefully consider these key factors in deciding whether to get separated or divorced in Ontario:
1. Is your spouse always criticizing you and putting you down? You can’t have a positive self-esteem and good self-image when your spouse is always criticizing you. This can lead to a very toxic living environment.
2. Is your spouse involved in destructive behavior? For example, if your spouse involved in drug use, heavy drinking, gambling or illegal activities, your marriage or relationship is under serious pressure unless your spouse gets some important help now.
3. Is your spouse refusing to help fix any problems with the relationship? Your marriage or relationship, unfortunately, does not have much hope if your spouse will not work on improving your relationship.
4. Are your experiencing any type of emotional, physical or financial abuse in your relationship or marriage? Your spouse again needs some serious counselling to deal with these serious issues.
5. Is your spouse involved in an affair? Your spouse must end their affair and take responsibility for it.
6. Will your spouse discuss issues in your marriage or relationship with you? It’s hard to repair a relationship or marriage when your spouse will not talk to you about the important issues in your lives.
7. Do you and your spouse respect each other? When you don’t have that mutual respect and your spouse will not work on this issue, it’s hard to get to the stage of a healthy relationship or marriage.
You need to remember as well that in most situations that staying together for the sake of the children does not work out well for your kids.
Studies have shows that children raised in unhappy homes face anxiety and frustration throughout their childhood and in their adult years.
Give some careful thought to whether you can repair your relationship or marriage. You should recommend relationship counselling to your spouse as well.
A good relationship counsellor can be worth their weight in gold in helping put a relationship or marriage back on track.
