The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Spouses Getting Separated or Divorced in Ontario!
One thing is for sure: you are much more likely to have an easier time with the end of your marriage or relationship when you have these 7 habits of highly effective spouses getting separated or divorced.
Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley. I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.
Here are the first three essential habits of highly effective spouses getting separated or divorced:
Habit #1: Ask for The Help You Need
You will have a much easier time in your separation or divorce when you have the key help or assistance you need to deal with the various issues in your situation.
Even if you know you can work out a settlement with your former spouse without going to court, you need the advice of an experienced family lawyer so that you understand and protect your family law rights.
You might also need the help of a good accountant to deal with business and tax issues that arise in your separation or divorce.
Many spouses find the help of a good therapist for personal counselling very beneficial to deal with the difficult emotional issues involved in their separation or divorce.
You should also set up a support network of trusted family members and friends who can help you in this difficult time in your life.
Habit #2: Take Care of Yourself
You are facing some tough times in your separation or divorce, even in a friendly divorce.
You need to take time for yourself on a daily basis to avoid getting overwhelmed in your family law matters. You can take time for yourself by exercising, such as walking, swimming or biking.
You can also take important time for yourself by spending time with friends and engaging in fun hobbies or activities.
By taking care of yourself during your separation or divorce, you will be mentally prepared for dealing with the difficult issues in your family law case.
Habit #3: Act in a Professional, Business-Like Manner
You need to approach the family law issues in your separation or divorce in a professional, business-like manner.
When you act emotionally, you will not make good decisions about the family law issues in your situation.
It’s definitely hard not to get emotionally overwhelmed at certain points during your separation or divorce. That’s why personal counselling can be so important to help you deal with these emotionally-difficult times.
Here’s another important point: don’t let your former spouse bully or intimidate you.
You often make bad decisions that you’ll regret later if you let your former spouse bully you into accepting a certain deal or settlement in your family law case.
I will discuss the other 4 highly effective habits in the next video.
