Hi, my name is Thomas O’Malley. I’m an experienced family lawyer in Durham Region and the GTA.
Here are some key strategies you should start using before you actually initiate or begin the separation or divorce process:
1. Don’t Post on Social Media Sites About Your Separation or Divorce
It’s so so easy to go running and post nasty posts on social media, such as Facebook, about your separation or divorce.
Many people regret making these posts since your former spouse can easily use these posts against you in family court.
The key is to stay calm and take a step back when you are angry or frustrated.
Don’t use social media as a way to strike back against your spouse since they may have the last laugh when you see they have used these posts against you in court.
2. Rely on Your Friends and Family as a Support System
When you are feeling frustrated, angry or anxious, this is the time to rely on the support of your friends and family for help rather than venting your emotions on social media.
In fact, you should carefully consider who will be part of your support system when you are getting separated or divorced.
You are going to deal with a difficult emotional time in your separation or divorce. You can certainly reduce your anger, anxiety and frustration with the right family members and friends at your side to support you.
